Detailed Video: Vehicle Crashes Into Detroit Metro Airport Terminal; Investigation Continues

ROMULUS, Mich. — A vehicle crashed into the McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Friday evening, triggering a large emergency response and an ongoing police investigation. Authorities say the incident does not appear to have been caused by a medical emergency.

What Happened

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, a passenger vehicle drove through the glass entrance of the McNamara Terminal, breaching exterior barriers and entering the public check-in area near the Delta Air Lines counters. The impact shattered large sections of glass and scattered debris across the terminal floor.

Video from inside the terminal shows the vehicle resting inside the building as airport police and emergency crews quickly secured the scene.

Response and Injuries

Airport police and Wayne County Airport Authority fire crews responded within minutes.
The driver was taken into custody at the scene without reported resistance.

Authorities say six people were treated for minor injuries, primarily from flying glass and debris. Several airport or airline employees were among those evaluated. No life-threatening injuries and no fatalities have been reported.

Cause Under Investigation

Officials say the crash does not appear to be related to a medical emergency, contradicting early speculation circulating on social media. Investigators have also stated there is no indication at this time that the incident was terrorism-related.

The exact cause remains under investigation. Police are reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining the vehicle to determine whether impairment, recklessness, or another factor played a role.

Airport Operations

Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, airport operations were not significantly disrupted. The incident occurred in a non-secure, pre-screening area of the terminal, and flights continued with minimal delays. The damaged section of the terminal was temporarily closed for cleanup and repairs.

What Comes Next

Investigators are expected to:

  • Continue reviewing video and witness statements

  • Determine whether charges will be filed

  • Assess whether additional safety or security measures are needed in public terminal areas

Authorities say more information will be released once the investigation progresses.
