UPDATE: Driver in Custody After Vehicle Crashes Into Delta Check-In Area at Detroit Metro Airport

ROMULUS, Mich. — New details have emerged following a frightening incident Tuesday night at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, where a vehicle drove into the Delta Air Lines check-in area inside the McNamara Terminal.

According to airport officials and witness accounts, the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. when a car entered the terminal and struck the Delta Air Lines check-in zone. Video from the scene shows the suspect vehicle later being towed out of the McNamara Terminal as police secured the area.

Witnesses told authorities that after the crash, the driver exited the vehicle and began yelling inside the terminal, causing panic among travelers and airport staff. Several witnesses said it took approximately five minutes for security personnel to locate and detain the suspect.

Police confirmed the driver is now in custody. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released information on whether the incident was intentional, medical-related, or accidental.

Emergency responders treated six people at the scene for injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. No fatalities have been reported.

The McNamara Terminal was temporarily disrupted as law enforcement conducted their investigation, but airport operations have since resumed. Travelers were advised to expect brief delays while cleanup and security checks were completed.

Authorities emphasized that the incident is not believed to be terrorism-related at this time, though the investigation is ongoing. Additional details, including potential charges against the driver, are expected to be released as the case develops.
