Fair and Balanced? Obama has dinner at newspaper publishers home

Obama spent the first evening of his three-day Alaska trip at the home of Alice Rogoff, publisher of the state's largest newspaper.

publisher's West Anchorage home, which sits on the edge of Campbell Lake, following a 22-minute closing speech at the State Department's GLACIER Conference.

When the presidential motorcade arrived around 7:30 p.m., the quiet neighborhood picked up: a Black Hawk helicopter was buzzing overhead, Secret Service agents were swarming the area, and security boats were patrolling around the lake, keeping curious neighbors at bay.

K-9 units checked cars along the street, and an attendee of the evening event said after it concluded that all the blinds were closed as a security measure.

As the group inside visited, a crowd of neighbors gathered at the edge of a security perimeter, battling the brisk weather to catch a glimpse of the president.

Neighbors confirmed the home belongs to Rogoff and said she had lived at the home for five years, more or less.

In April 2014, Rogoff drew national headlines when she purchased the Anchorage Daily News from The McClatchy Company for $34 million, merging that longstanding paper with Alaska Dispatch, an online publication she helped to found.

The Alaska Dispatch is the largest newspaper in Alaska.
